You can make all types of games in HypeHype but they could also be, animations, memes, interactive experiences and more.
Games can be created From Scratch or by Remixing an existing Hype or Template
Remixing is the fastest and easiest way to create a new game. You can open any existing game in the editor and mold it into your own game.
You can start by remixing templates, which are carefully designed by the HypeHype team to be fun and easy to work with. They come with sticky notes that guide you through the process. Choose a template with a game mechanic or an environment you like and go crazy!
Tutorials can also be remixed. When you complete a tutorial, you can save it and use it as the basis of your own hypes.
Like a game or animation you found in the feed? Open it in the editor and tweak it to match your own ideas. This can sometimes be tricky, if the game logic is complicated - but hey, you can always concentrate on the visuals and level design!
Remix any existing Game by tapping the thumbnail in the upper right corner to access the Remix Menu.
In this menu you can find all of the remixes made from the Game as well as the Game that it was remixed from.
At the bottom of the screen tap the Remix this Game button to start your own Remix.
Once finished with the Remixing, just publish your Game and it will be automatically linked back to the original Game.
Let's start by remixing a template! Remember that these steps are only a guide, and you can do it in whichever order is more convenient for you!
We will work on the Platformer template for this example.
Step 1 - Prepare the player
This template includes notes on what you should do to make it your own. First, let's start by customizing the player. You can look in the assets on the bottom left for character items like hair, clothes, and others to make it look like anything you want! Also, you can edit the player by changing the model to something else!
Step 2 - Add assets from Builder Panel & add platforms
To add gameplay elements from the builder panel, simply open it and drag them to the platforms. You can edit their looks the same way we did for the player.
To add platforms, select the ground and then tap "paint" in the upper right corner. This will open a new view where you can paint and erase the ground, and move the camera around.
Step 3 - Add new music and edit the light direction
Now that everything is ready, it's time to add the music. You can open the assets panel and look for music that suits the atmosphere of your Game. Select the music tab and browse until you find what you're looking for.
The light can also change direction. First, you'll need to select the sun light node and then rotate it.
Step 4 - Playtest
Now it's time to playtest. We suggest doing this throughout the creative process so that you can see if your logic is working, or if the world you are building looks good! Once you have everything set up, playtest to check the feel of the Game. See if you can complete it easily, or if it's way too hard (depending on what you're going for!).
Playtest the Game by tapping the play button on the bottom right of the screen. There are different options you can check when playtesting by swiping right from the left side of the screen.
Step 5 - Post
Once everything has been set up and you're happy with the result, go ahead and post your Game so other users can play it. This is done easily by tapping the save button on the bottom right corner of the screen in the editor. Remember to edit the name and description, and don't forget to add a few hashtags to make your Game easy to find by others!
To post, you'll need to first add up to three categories.
And you're done! Your Game is now live and others can play it and find it in their For You page or your profile.
It's also possible to create a hype from scratch. It's a bit harder but after completing some of our tutorials and remixing a few templates, you'll be good to go!
There are many ways to come up with great ideas for Games:
1. Explore the assets
Play with models, explore the asset library... new ideas and stories will start to develop for sure!
2. Try out different premades
Collectable coins, enemies, UFOs, player characters, obstacles and more will speed up your game-making!
If you get stuck, save your work and go play some games. Look at games with a game designer eye: what are your favorite themes and visual styles, what kind of game mechanics you like, what kinds of levels are pleasant to play? Get inspired and try to replicate the best ideas you discover.
You can create the full range of game logic using logic nodes. This wiki contains information on all available nodes and how they work. You can also access information on each node directly from the app by tapping the "?" on it.
To create a playlist tap the ••• icon on any Game and select Add to Playlist then select Create a Playlist.
Get even more details about Playlists in the Playlists Wiki Entry.
Interactive Tutorials can be found by tapping the Learn tab on the Create page. Tap the plus icon at the bottom of the screen to navigate to the Create page then tap the Learn button to access interactive tutorials.
